Tells the story of Ken Kaneki, a university student, who after being attacked by a ghoul (supernatural beings who survive eating human flesh and hide in the secret among humans) manages to save himself by a transplant that makes him half-ghoul. Now Kaneki must have a new life hiding his identity among the dark streets of Tokyo. In Tokyo, the shy student Kaneki Ken dates the girl Kamishiro Rize and while in a lonely park, she attacks him since she is a flesh-eater ghoul. Kaneki escapes but soon he learns that he has become a ghoul. He befriends a group of peaceful ghouls and tries to live his new life with them. However they are hunted down by relentless two police officers from the Ghoul Division in charge of eradicate ghouls from their district. With a lot of anime being adapted recently and then blowing, I came into this movie thinking it might be another blowout only to find myself pleasantly surprised at how good it was. And I'm a manga reader<br/><br/>This adaptation follows the manga faithfully, with only a few minor changes that really don't matter (ie. Remember when Hide, Kaneki, and Nishio go out and get treats. How Nishio and Kaneki end up fighting in an alley? Well we still have the fight but the setting is a bit different). The characters all had the right atmosphere to them, Hide being a ball of sunshine, Kaneki being the crybaby human turned ghoul, and Touka being an abusive douche. I loved how this movie didn't try to cram everything about Tokyo Ghoul in 2hrs, instead only picking one arc and trying to convey some of Kaneki's emotions at being turned, trying to fit in, and setting up the world (and how it works)<br/><br/>The only thing that I can say REALLY sucked was the CG but that's how it usually is. If you can just ignore this then this adaptation was really good (though individually the Kagune look really cool, but added to the people, well, they tried). If there's more of these, you bet I'm checking them out! <br/><br/>The only other manga/anime adaptation that has left me as pleased as this one was the Japanese Death Note movies (though those were cooler since it didn't need much CG work) 2017 for me is the year of live action movie with title like Gintama a movie that basically impossible to work on the big screen ending up at my favorite live action movie of this year and for Tokyo Ghoul despite not being a hardcore fan of the manga or the anime series i think it worth everyone hype and have a bright future.The direction of the movie may not the best but it give us enough informations and characters to care about.Masataka Kubota as Kaneki is perfect and for the fight scene with CGI Kagune if you can get behind a little bit of awkward at first it will turn out not that bad in the end.
